What you’re looking at is a 1985 GMC High Sierra. 4.3 liters of V6 Quadrajet motivated fury. Only rear wheel drive and with a four speed manual. The synchros were messed up inside the transmission, so that coupled with being the first time I’d driven a manual, I burned through three clutches in 6 months. My friends and I used to call it The Cricket because the throwout bearing was bad and chirped like crazy. When I first got it, for $800 from my uncle, only the left front brake caliper worked. I got that sorted, and then instantly failed state inspection because my rear main deal puked oil all over the inspection bay. Fixed that, the shocks, rebuilt the carburetor, never painted it or got the gas gauge working, and lived with it all throughout senior year. I sold it to a junkyard to use as a yard truck. The owner’s son thought it would be funny to drop a sea container on the bed to see what happened. Poor girl deserved better.

What always amazes me is how much abuse these things could take and still function.

Damn I want one of these. I really like mid-80’s to early 90’s GM trucks.

If it’s ass-end wasn’t a pancake right now, I bet it’d still be tooling around.
